The CBE's Approach to Community Engagement

Dialogue is the Calgary Board of Education’s approach to community engagement. It is a mutually respectful exchange of ideas that acknowledges and celebrates the diversity within the CBE community. It represents our ongoing commitment to involve people in decisions that affect them.

We know we make better decisions when we listen and work together to solve problems and find solutions. When we do, our students are better equipped to become successful citizens who contribute their ideas, passion and energy to society.

There can be no dialogue without you. Find out more about Dialogue as well as current and past system engagement initiatives on the CBE’s website.

Sharing Back | School Planning

Thank you to everyone who participated in our school planning engagement survey for 2023-2024. We know that we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. This winter, due to the unique nature of CBe-learn’s program, our school planning survey was administered separately for our elementary, junior high, and senior high families.

Regarding responses to the elementary and junior high surveys, due to low participation in our online survey and in the interest of protecting the anonymity of those who responded, we won’t be sharing the results. However, the survey responses we received have been reviewed and will be considered in making decisions about school planning.

Responses to our senior high school survey affirmed the value of our School Development Plan in supporting student learning. In this area, 75% of respondents indicated agreement or strong agreement with the statement “My child’s learning can benefit from the goals, actions and resources in the SDP.” While a clear majority were still in agreement, a somewhat smaller group of respondents (61%) indicated their agreement with the statement, “The learning of all students is reflected and prioritized in the goals, action and resources in the SDP.”  Similarly, respondents indicated that the activities our school provides are important to their child’s learning (88%).  88% or respondents also agreed or strongly agreed that they support paying fees for the opportunities we provide to enhance learning.

We appreciate and will consider these responses to help inform our future actions. Finally, although some written feedback was outside of the scope of this survey, we also received valuable written feedback that will be considered in future planning. We are proud of the amazing opportunities that we provide students at CBe-learn but, as always, parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers and administration if you have suggestions about how we can make our great program even better. Your voice is important to us!
