Science Experiments at Home
Our Grade 3 class has been exploring states of matter. What better way to bring it all together than with the exciting "Elephant Toothpaste" experiment!
This activity demonstrates all three states of matter: the hydrogen peroxide (a liquid) reacts with yeast (a solid) to release oxygen (a gas), which mixes with dish soap (a liquid) to create a foamy, "solid-like" structure made out of a liquid and a gas.
Grade 3 scientist, Evie, shows what she knows about safety and states of matter as she leads the experiment. Evie uses academic vocabulary as she guides her classmates in creating the chemical reaction. Students join Evie from kitchens across the city. How fun!
Kudos to Ms. Soare for providing yet another rich learning opportunity for students - and to Learning Coaches at home who provide organizational support and supervision!
